Adding a dumbbell anchor for kayak fishing

Use a cable zip tie to ­connect a short piece of rope, with knots on either end, to a dumbbell, leaving a slight loop in the middle so the weight hangs horizontally.

Wrap the rear (or front) handle with duct tape to give the zip ties some “bite” on metal handles, and attach a pulley with cable zip ties. Add pulleys wherever friction might be a problem. Run line through all of them and ­attach the anchor.
