Don’t miss the 10th annual Fishin’ with a Mission event on July 31st at the Mystic Wellington Yacht Club in Medford, Mass. This event is a day of fun, fishing and boating to support Autism Awareness that has seen much success over the last decade. A charity bass tournament will be held from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on July 31st out of Mystic Wellington Yacht Club, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Eli Delany, who is the father of an autistic child, has worked diligently over the last decade to bring more eyes to this great cause and great event. Although the fishing tournament is always a hit, Delany makes sure that the event serves a greater purpose. Along with the tournament, there is also a “fun day” that takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that serves kids of all ages and their families. Fun day activities include food, live music, rides, giveaway prizes, fishing from the bank and boat rides provided by members of the Mystic Wellington Yacht Club.
In addition to the bass tournament and fun day, the Mystic Wellington Yacht Club also hosts a striped bass tournament on the same day to add even more fun and excitement.
This serves as a great opportunity to introduce children with autism to fishing and is an overall wonderful time for children of all ages.
“The event has turned into a three-pronged event,” said Delany. “Obviously we have the typical bass tournament, the virtual striped bass tournament and the fun day for kids of all ages — we have several hundred kids as well as their families participate year in and year out.”
Over the past decade, Delany has received support from some of the biggest professional names in the sport such as Brandon Palaniuk, John Crews and Mike Iaconelli, as well as companies such as Mercury Marine, with the help of Michelle Kilburn, Missile Baits and more! A number of Bassmaster Elite Series pros represent this great organization by rocking the Fishin’ with a Mission decal.
“Spreading awareness has been my main goal for doing all of this,” he said.
