DIY light post for a bassing kayak

Kayak bass angler Joe Colegrove of Eaton Rapids, Mich., was impossible to miss in the predawn darkness before the tournament. “Cost me about 40 bucks at Home Depot and took about a half-hour to put together,” Colegrove said.

I made a version that cost a little over $20 but was not nearly as bright as Colegrove’s.

Materials needed:
• 5- or 6-foot length of 1-inch-diameter translucent PEX pipe
• Suitable top “bulb” (I used an empty bubble bath bottle.)
• String of white LED lights (I used 6 feet of battery-powered Christmas lights.)
• Tape

Tape the battery holder/switch onto the pipe, leaving enough room at the bottom to securely fit the pipe in your rod holder. Slide the pipe into the preferred rod holder.
