Cody Meyer’s flat-sided crankbait box

Take a look at Elite Series pro Cody Meyer's flat-sided crankbait box and the variety of colors he uses for different situations.

As the temperatures begin to drop, it’s time to think about picking up a crankbait and going to work. First-year Elite pro Cody Meyer relies on a flat-sided crankbait heavily for shallow-water cranking and has a plethora of colors he will use depending on the situation.
Meyer’s shallow running, flat-sided crankbait box is one that has a place in his boat at all times given the variety of situations where it can play.
His go-to flat-sided crankbait of choice is the Evergreen Flat Force 4.
“The Flat Force is a crankbait I found out about seven or eight years ago before I was even sponsored by Evergreen,” he said.
“With the flat sides this bait has a tight wobble, and the circuit board lip makes it nearly indestructible,” said Meyer. “It casts really good as well. A lot of the flat-sided crankbaits on the market will spin in the air but this one casts straight which is a really big deal.”
“What I love about this bait is you can fish it from as shallow as about a foot all the way down to 6 feet or so depending on the line size you choose.” he said. “The way the bait is designed, it deflects off of cover really well. It’s great around wood, rocks or even feathering it above grass.”

Let’s get into some of Meyer’s favorite colors and when he uses each.

Evergreen Flat Force – Cold Shad
“This is my overall favorite color and my go-to for a lot of situations,” he said. “It’s a really good natural shad color that works really well in the fall or anytime the fish are feeding on shad.”
Evergreen Flat Force – Fire Craw
“The Fire Craw is my absolute go-to in the prespawn,” Meyer stated. “Honestly it’s one of the only colors I throw in the prespawn. It’s really bright and works really well in dirtier water around rocks.”
Evergreen Flat Force – Blue Back Chartreuse
“Anytime I’m fishing dirty water and it’s not the prespawn period, I like the the bright Blue Back Chartreuse,” he said.
Evergreen Flat Force – Olive Craw
“The Olive Craw is a color I like to throw when it’s prespawn but I’m fishing a body of water like Table Rock that’s really clear water,” he said. “This is an excellent color around the Ozarks lakes.”
Evergreen Flat Force – Flash Wakasagi
“This color is really going to shine in those ultra-clear water situations,” he said. “Think desert lakes or even a place like Lake Travis where I’ve caught them on this color. This is the color that I’m going to use lighter line and try to get the bait down deeper.”
