WHAT IS IT?
Yo-Zuri 3DR-X Series Flat Crankbait
WHAT SETS IT APART?
Flat-sided crankbaits and prespawn cranking go hand in hand, and the Yo-Zuri 3DR-X Series Flat Crank is a great choice to put the big ones in the boat. At 2 1/8-inch long, the 3DR-X Flat Crank is a small-body, flat-sided bait that produces a hard-thumping vibration which triggers those prespawn pigs into biting. One thing that truly sets the entire lineup of 3DR-X apart from the competition is the attention to detail in the patented 3D internal prism scale finishes that send off light under the water. All eight of the available colors cover the forage base that bass eat.
HOW DO I USE IT?
Despite the bait’s small size, it still weighs 3/8 ounce which allows anglers to make pinpoint casts at cover or make long casts. Diving in the 3- to 4-foot range, the 3DR-X Flat Crank features a coffin-style bill that gives the bait a unique action and allows it to deflect off of cover with ease. Despite the fact that flat-sided baits like the 3DR-X Flat Crank are phenomenal during the prespawn period, they can also be deadly when fished in the fall when the bass are keying in on small baitfish.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:
Year after year, B.A.S.S. tournaments that are held during the prespawn time period are often dominated by flat-sided crankbaits. It’s not to say that a flat-sided bait won’t get the job done during other time periods, but there’s something about the action and water displacement that drives big prespawn bass crazy.
Flat-sided baits in the past have almost always been made out of balsa wood which makes them relatively difficult to cast, but the 3DR-X Flat Crank is not difficult to cast despite its small stature. Durability is always an issue with balsa baits as well.
When it comes to places to throw the 3DR-X Flat Crank, the options are nearly endless – rocky banks, laydowns, submerged grass and other pieces of isolated cover are all excellent choices. Pick up this bitesize snack this spring and get to work!
