Gear Review: Humminbird Helix G3/G3N

What is it?

Humminbird HELIX G3/G3N

What sets it apart?

Humminbird has bolstered its Helix lineup by introducing the third generation (G3) models featuring Mega Imaging+, sonar frequency three-times greater than traditional 455 kHz frequencies for incredibly sharp, clear underwater views. With 20% more detail than Mega Imaging, the innovative Mega Imaging+ gives anglers the ability to see out 200 feet to each side and 200 feet below the boat to more efficiently locate fish and fish-holding structure.

How do I use it?

Available in 7-, 8-, 9-, 10- and 12-inch sizes, the Helix G3/G3N fish finders include Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar designed to help anglers see individual fish, clearly identify bait and structure, and reach greater depths and range. This technology offers Wide Mode, which shows bigger and better fish arches, and Narrow Mode, which maximizes detail and target separation. Helix G3/G3N units also come standard with Humminbird Basemap, which provides depth and points-of-interest to the entire U.S. coast and more than 10,000 lakes.

Angler’s insight:

The new Helix G3/G3N units bring even greater functionality to the One-Boat Network, which unites a Humminbird unit with a Minn Kota trolling motor equipped with i-Pilot Link or a Minn Kota Talon. The benefit of One-Boat Network products talking to each other is the ability to navigate the boat automatically and reposition or anchor effortlessly. Making these units even more user-friendly, the built-in Bluetooth allows users to sync their smartphones and other devices and monitor text messages, missed calls, signal strength and battery life on the Humminbird display.
