What is it?
AFTCO Yurei Air-O-Mesh
What sets it apart?
Too much of a good thing can be a … hold on, AFTCO might finish that sentence differently than normal — particularly concerning its new Yurei Air-O-Mesh sun protection shirt made completely of breathable mesh fabric. While some garments may include mesh panels — certainly, not a negative — AFTCO went all-in with a 94% polyester, 6% elastane construction that ensures day-long comfort in those seemingly intolerable conditions. Bring it on, dog days, the Yurei’s made to handle summer’s swelter.
How do I use it?
Available in sizes S-2X, the Yurei Air-O-Mesh comes in a crew neck style as well as a hooded version with a built-in face mask. Each men’s and women’s model features AFBLOCK UPF 40 sun protection, AFCOOL quick dry moisture wicking, AFGUARD 3M stain resistance and antimicrobial treatment for odor control. The result of this technical integration is a shirt that helps shield you from the hot days while keeping you fresh and presentable for the tournament weigh-ins or dockside socialization.
How much?
$55

Angler’s insight:
We all know the drill — no wind, soaring heat, and in the Southeast, choking humidity. Lightweight garments are a good start, but they have to be breathable. AFTCO accomplished that goal while including a handy set of thumb loops. I used to scoff at this as more of a fashion statement, but as AFTCO’s Matt Florentino clarified, this feature prevents sleeves from riding up during boat rides and secures additional protection for the tops of your hands. It further eliminates that awkward tugging and twisting gyration we often face when layering finds the base layer riding into the most uncomfortable position possible. I’m now a thumb loops fan.
