What is it?
TRUE EDC Essentials Kit
What sets it apart?
The phrase “everyday carry” (EDC) means different things for different folks, but TRUE has assembled a smartly selected set of items that can play a true EDC role or fit into a larger plan — think: backpack, emergency/survival kit or ditch bag. One of my pet peeves is clunkiness — I can’t stand minibricks in my pockets, especially with the lightweight pants I wear fishing, hiking, kayaking, etc. — so I tucked all of the pieces into my pockets and walked, bent over, knelt and sat with no discomfort.
How do I use it?
The TRUE EDC Essentials Kit includes the following items:
- SCRYBEballpoint pen with three replacement ink cartridges, inch/centimeter ruler, double-sided Phillips/slotted micro-bit driver, bubble level and touchscreen stylus
- SmartKnife+ with a partially serrated, 2.75-inch blade, magnetic driver and No. 2 Phillips bit, wire strippers, 6- to 14-mm wrenches, slotted drivers, bottle opener, pry bar, inch/centimeter ruler and file
- Plasma Lighter that requires no fuel, provides a windproof arc and is water-resistant and rechargeable
- 5,000 Ah Power Bank (3.57×2.48 inches) with a charging cable that also fits the lighter

Angler’s insight:
There are several things I like about this kit, starting with the all-black design — helpful in maintaining a low-vis profile in nature. The sturdy SmartKnife+ packs a lot of practical functionality into a compact space without any piece feeling flimsy or unnecessary. The belt clip has just the right tension for a firm hold without abrading the fabric with every on/off. For walkers, runners, cyclists, etc., the SCRYBE can double as a compact personal security tool, similar to a kubaton safety keychain.
