In today’s bass fishing world, finding an angler who doesn’t use braid as their main line on a spinning reel is almost impossible. So having a spool that is braid ready is a huge plus. The SX SP reel is specifically designed to easily spool braid. Spooling up my high visibility braid for the first time was simple and easy, and I had no issues with line twists. From there, I tied on my fluorocarbon leader and was ready to go.
Once I got it out on the water, I was impressed. From wacky-rigged worms to shaky heads and drop shots, the SX SP was a smooth casting reel, and I could make accurate casts from a long distance with all three techniques.
In close quarters, SX SP allowed me to skip a worm flawless under tree limbs and next to cypress trees and laydowns.
I have hooked several smaller bass with this reel thus far and the drag system worked well with those smaller fish. The drag was smooth as the fish pulled line out with no grinding or stopping whatsoever. But I found I could also wrench these smaller fish in just as easily. I have no doubt when it comes time to hook a giant largemouth on bed in the spring or aggressive smallmouth in the summer, the drag system will work smoothly so you can land more bass.
