Gear Review: Shimano Exsence 2500XG

WHAT IS IT?

Shimano Exsence 2500XG

WHAT SETS IT APART?

The recent debut of the Exsence spinning reel lineup with a new 2500-size option is equipped with ultra-fast XG gearing (6.4:1), weighing a scant 6.3 ounces.

The MGL Rotor, constructed of lightweight carbon-infused material features an asymmetrical design to slash rotational inertia. In layman’s speak that gives anglers instant startup and agile bait control. The benefits are subtle bite detection with fluid retrieves. The 2500XG features mono line capacities of 8-140 and 10-20 (pound-yards) and 10-150, 15-145 and 30-100 for superlines. You get 37 inches of line retrieve per crank.

The 2500XG features Shimano’s InfinityLoop for enhanced spool oscillation and line lay for longer, smoother casts. Infinity Drive provides effortless reeling during the fight and InfinityXross gear design for improved durability in a lightweight package. Rapid Fire Drag enables precise drag adjustments on the go, while the DuraCross drag system provides smooth resistance under load. Anti-Twist Fin further enhances line management by maintaining consistent tension and reduced slack.

HOW DO I USE IT?

As the flagship model in Shimano’s Magnum Lite series, the Exsence B in the 2500XG is tailored for finesse techniques primarily used for forward-facing sonar. Drop shotting and strolling are the perfect dance partners for the 2500XG. The 2500XGB expands access to Shimano’s premium technologies for finesse fishing, allowing anglers to fine-tune gear for specific techniques using a premium reel equipped with Shimano’s MGL Rotor.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

You get a fine-tuned reel that delivers longer, more accurate casts, ultra-responsive control and smooth, powerful retrieves. In my hands-on gear review those attributes were noticeable on lightweight jig heads with micro versions of soft plastics, and especially 2-inch minnows.

Beyond the premium technologies, the Exsence 2500XG gives me peace of mind knowing I can make precision presentations with the very lightest of finesse rigs. That’s worth the investment considering today’s highly pressured bass in the growing sphere of live scoping.
