Gear Review: LIVETARGET Live Craw

WHAT IS IT?

LIVETARGET Live Craw

WHAT SETS IT APART?

Bass are triggered by vulnerability and evasion. If a forage species looks like an easy meal, it usually becomes one. Conversely, is a bass locks onto prey and it tries to flee, predatory instinct compels the fish to pursue. LIVETARGET’s new Live Craw leverages both of these points with an ultra-realistic crustacean design that includes a unique swing weight system. This ensures a horizontal descent that resembles the posture in which a craw naturally holds itself.

HOW DO I USE IT?

Crawfish, like most living creatures, don’t fall like a rock — there’s typically some degree of motion. From nervous jitters to directional adjustments, the LIVETARGET swing weight keeps the Live Craw slightly off-balance to create a lifelike wobble on the fall and while moving the bait across the bottom. The ABS plastic body ensures the durability to work this bait across rough habitat, while buoyant, active TPE legs produce the nervous fluttering action that looks like a scurrying crawfish. Available in 2 1/2- and 3-inch sizes, the Live Craw is made with a strong Mustad hook and a low-frequency, fish-attracting knock.

ANGLER’S INSIGHT:

Unlike a baitfish that flashes, dashes and triggers bass aggression with a more frantic display, crawfish are more limited to short spurts and subtle falls. This is the action that the LIVETARGET Live Craw is designed to emulate. LIVETARGET’s inclusion of three interchangeable weights puts total control in the angler’s hand with the ability to adjust the bait’s fall rate. Depth, water temperature, clarity, season — all of these factors determine a craws movement, so the ability to dial in a particular look is a well-conceived feature.
