WHAT SETS IT APART?
Gill adapted features of its long-trusted marine boot that is a staple of deckhands and competition sailors into a landlocked, angler-friendly version. Gill’s ankle-length boots are made from a 100% natural rubber compound for a waterproof seal and easy cleaning. A reinforced heel adds impact protection, rounding out the features of what is best described as technical footwear as opposed to rubber boots. Available in men’s sizes 6 to 13 and two colors (shadow camo and glacier).
HOW DO I USE IT?
The built-in heel step is a brilliant idea, as it makes the boots easy to remove, and Gill added a removable cushioned insole so you don’t have to buy one. Razor-cut soles provide increased traction — think early morning walks across slippery frost-covered boat docks. The full internal neoprene liner keeps feet warm and dry, and it extends to the top of the boot for a snug fit.

Gill has been around for 50 years, establishing its reputation among mariners for foul-weather gear. Not your ordinary rubber boots, what I appreciate are the additional technical features adapted specifically with freshwater anglers in mind.
For this review, I wore the boots in sunny, balmy south Florida while flying our drone for Bassmaster.com. That’s an unordinary use of the boots, but I wanted to simulate wearing them in warmer conditions. They no doubt perform superbly in cool, wet weather too. They passed the test, as my feet never got too hot, making them an ideal year-round pair of footwear.
