Smallmouth slang

Lingo, jargon, slang — every activity or interest has its own set of informal terminology, typically reflecting a not-so-subtle sentiment of reverence and endearment.

Brandon Palaniuk, who leads the Progressive Elite Series Angler of the Year race, offered a lesson in proper smallmouth speak after boating a 5-pounder.

“They’re just Meat Nuggets.”

Another one: “St. Lawrence Sand Slaunch.”

Bassmaster Live’s Ronnie Moore reminded us of one more: “Boulder Beast.”

Keep watching live coverage of the Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at St. Lawrence River and you might pick up a few more tidbits of brown fish parlance.

Sure, you can call ‘em “big smallmouth” if you like; but if you want to sound like the cool kids… just sayin.

And to the therapeutic aspect of catching these meat nuggets, Palaniuk said: “That’s good for the soul.”
