Shryock with a good one to start Day 2

Hunter Shryock is on the board this morning with a quality bass that was logged as a 5-0 on BassTrakk. It was an eventful catch, as the bass ate his moving bait and ran under a dock post. After a couple seconds, Shryock coaxed it back out from under the dock, into the boat and then into the livewell. As another competitor ran by, he kneeled on his front deck pretending to mess with his graph with the bass behind his back.

There is a technique to getting the bass out from under a dock post. “Keep tension,” Shryock said. “She ate it and ran around the post. With the tension they start working back that way.“

Compared to yesterday, Shryock is way ahead of schedule. He fished strictly for spawners most of Day 1 and did not get bit in the morning. Now, he may have something to complement his sight fishing program. “I’m still trying to figure out a rotation,” he said.

Since catching his 5-pounder, the Ohio native turned Tennessean has felt several more bass bump his bait, but none have connected. Still, he is on a good pace to repeat or exceed his 22-9 Day 1 performance that has him in 4th place entering the day.
