Bryan Schmitt started the day in fourth place, and thanks to two quality bites, he’s moved up a spot on BassTrakk to third. Schmitt has averaged nearly 4 pounds a fish so far this week, with 38-1 going into Day 3. He has two that likely come close to 4 pounds on average right now.
“We need three more bites,” Schmitt exhaled as he put the second bass in the boat.
Schmitt is fishing with a drop shot, targeting fish he’s seeing on his Garmin LiveScope. He’s crediting the bites he’s getting to a special color of Missle Baits worms (Blueback Secret), that he only has three of remaining. And he’s letting his bait “sit there on slack line,” which Schmitt also believes is critical right now.
“There’s gotta be a better way to catch them, but I haven’t figured it out,” Schmitt said.
It’s a painfully slow way to fish, but a very effective one.
