Rivet’s roller coaster

Tyler Rivet has been all over the place this week, emotionally and in the standings. Though he’s stayed calm and collected for the most part mentally, he’s certainly had some highs and lows emotionally. On Day 1, Rivet brought in 24 pounds, 5 ounces. Day 2 he blasted an even bigger bag of 29 pounds, 2 ounces.

But Day 3 was an all-out grind as he fought to scratch together 14 pounds, 11 ounces. Thanks to a tough Day 3 for several other leaders, like Brandon Cobb who had only 14 pounds, and 4 ounces, Rivet stayed near the top of the leaderboard in 3rd to start Championship Sunday.

The roller coaster went back up this morning as Rivet started the day with a 6- pounder coming in his first 10 casts. But it quickly came to a screeching halt as it took another 2 hours to add a 4- pound bass to his bag. Adding another 3- pounder two hours later and then culling a small keeper with a 2- pounder a few minutes ago, it’s been another grind of a day for Rivet. But he’s put together the second biggest bag to this point, with an estimated 17 pounds, 10 ounces. He sits 4 and 1/2 pounds ahead of Logan Latuso, who has the biggest bag of the day at 18 pounds.

Per B.A.S.S. photographer Andy Crawford, Rivet has just left his primary spot and moved upriver to the lock. Rivet got there, scanned around, caught a small keeper, and turned to Crawford, and said, “They’re here.”

Will River’s late-day move result in one more flurry? Or will his roller coaster be derailed by one of his pursuers in these last 2 hours? We will see, shortly.
