Jay Przekurat has unofficially entered the Bassmaster Elite Series Century Club, as the first angler to ever do it with all smallmouth. As long as he doesn’t have any issues making it to weigh-in and he hasn’t grossly overestimated the weight of his fish, it’s all but a certainty now that Przekurat will soon make history.
The question now is how many anglers will join him? There are four other anglers with upwards of 97-pounds on BassTrakk at the moment. Chris Zaldain is bringing up the rear of that pack in 5th with 97-3, and 24-12 on the day. Zaldain is unofficially 2-13 off of 100-pounds. But keep in mind that Zaldain brought in a bag he had estimated at 25 yesterday that actually weighed 27-4. So, he could already be there.
It’s understandable that the anglers will be particularly conservative on their guestimates today, not wanting to overestimate and have the world thinking they’ve broken the hundred-pound barrier, only to have to come in and eat crow for big eyeing their bass in one of the biggest moments in bass fishing history.
It’s going to take a big bag for the other guys to get there. But it’s definitely doable for all of them (28-14 won a local tournament here a week ago).
Here’s what each angler needs:
Jay Przekurat: 22-15
Bob Downey: 25-14
Greg Hackney: 26-15
Paul Mueller: 27-1
Stetson Blaylock: 27-3
Chris Zaldain: 27-9
Clark Wendlandt: 28-1
Cory Johnston: 28-3
Shane LeHew: 28-4
Chris Johnston: 28-6
