Brock Mosley came charging out of the gate this morning, stretching out a double-digit lead on a fishery where such a thing is comparable to a 30-pound lead on lakes like Santee, Guntersville, and Okeechobee. But things have tightened up quite a bit as of late, and the objects in Mosley’s review mirror may be closer than they appear.
Keith Poche sits in second currently on BassTrakk, with a limit for 7-8 on the board. This has him 5 pounds, 4 ounces back of Mosley, unofficially. But, we’ve been watching the LIVE footage of Poche catching them. And the three bass that he’s estimating at 1-8, 2-0 and 2-0 are all probably a half pound heavier, or more. Eyeballing Poche’s catch, he’s probably closer to 10 pounds than 7.
Clark Wendlandt sits in seventh, and blatantly told the Bassmaster LIVE crew that he was going to sandbag all he wanted to, as he weighed a 2-plus and called it a 1-pounder. Mosley may well have more than he’s saying too though. But the guys are absolutely wrecking them this morning, with a dozen bass caught already weighing 3 pounds or better. Mosley is in great position, but he needs to catch another big one to have any real cushion headed into Championship Sunday.
