Brandon Lester arrived at his starting spot this morning where he’s done most of his damage this week and was able to get on it. That’s victory No. 1 for Lester, as the fear each morning has been that someone else would be on his little hidey-hole and he wouldn’t be able to fish it.
He slid right up there this morning, set up shop and the grind began. Lester broke down to the spinning rod early today, and the move to the Neko rig paid off pretty quickly, although not as quickly as the last few days.
While writing this, Lester just boated No. 2 on the Neko rig, a 3-1/4. Though things started a little slower for Lester, they’re picking up quick, and his lead is stretching.
He started the day with a 3-1/2 pound lead. That deficit certainly isn’t insurmountable for the guys behind him, but catching these two good ones quick here on Championship Sunday has put some serious pressure on the rest of the field. Lester has 7 hours to get 3 more bites. If he does his job and hits his average of another 20-plus pound bag for Day 4, it’ll take the biggest bag of the event for someone to chase him down.
