Johnston’s only spot

Tournament leader Chris Johnston just made the comment that he’s on his spot, his only spot. The wind is blowing in the same direction as yesterday, and though it took a while for the bite to fire up yesterday, Johnston is optimistic
A couple of the theories going around this week: there is no way for an angler to be consistent across multiple days and banking on only one spot wouldn’t be the solution for the Oahe riddle, with these bass roaming constantly.

Johnston has disproven both of those myths with 18-15 on Day 1 and 18-13 yesterday. As steady as it gets. And with the recent comments from this Canadian hammer, we now know he’s banking on one key area.

Hackney and Christie kicked this information around on the LIVE Mix show. The insight they offered makes a lot of sense.

Basically, the guys theorized that even though Johnston is catching his fish off one spot, the bass aren’t always there. When Johnston isn’t catching fish, Christie believes it’s not because the fish aren’t biting, but it’s because they’re simply not there yet. And at some point, the fish cycle around to that spot and the action picks up in a hurry.

When they get there, you can catch them as fast as you can cast, is the way Hackney put it.
