Gussy lands his limit

After a short run, Gustafson landed his third keeper just after 9:36 a.m. Shortly after, Gussy lost one as he reeled it to the boat before landing his fourth keeper of the day.

25 minutes later, he boat-flipped his limit filler.

The point he has moved to is slightly calmer and much shallower than his starting area. Instead of dropping down, he has been casting to these smallmouth.

“I’ve got places shallow like this that have fish, but they aren’t winners,” Gussy said.

Now that he has five, the Great Canadian Snow Leopard believes he is in comfortable position to make the cut for tomorrow as well as qualify for the 2023 Academy Sports + Outdoors Bassmaster Classic At Knoxville, where he won his blue trophy.

He has another shallower spot a couple of miles up that is calmer as well that he will run to as well.

His starting spot was rougher than he would have liked, but overall the bass were not acting how he had hoped.

“I marked a few but they didn’t want to look at my bait,” he said. “Some of the deep spots I don’t think they like the boats around them.”
