Second place contender Jacob Foutz is sitting about 7 pounds off the pace currently set by tournament leader Brandon Lester. With three 3-pounders in his bag and a couple fours, Foutz needs to pour it on here late to make a charge — like a couple 6-pounders or three 5-pounders kinda pour it on.
Foutz has done most of his work early this week, making this an increasingly tall order. But he’s also done most of that work on one hole, one he’s had to leave at some point the first three days of the event in order to conserve fish. He won’t have to do that today. And I’m not sure we’ve seen him fish that spot late so far. The afternoon bite offshore has been big for anglers like Cody Huff who put together a monster bag in a matter of minutes a couple days ago late in the day. Could Foutz see the same kind of production from his honey hole in the waning hours today?
There’s still better than two hours of hard fishing time left for most of the guys, depending on how much of a run separates them from the ramp. We’ll see if Foutz can start to apply a little pressure soon.
