Outside of Lee Livesay, there may not have been a bigger favorite in the 2022 Simms Bassmaster Elite at Lake Fork than Keith Combs.
Over the course of his career, Combs has proved time after time to be a dominant force when the fish set up offshore in the postspawn period. To this point on Day 1, the Texas native has used a run and gun approach, fishing a spot for no longer than 15 minutes at a time.
The later it’s gotten into the day, Combs has tightened up his rotation of spots, checking on two or thee spots close in proximity, hoping for the fish to fire up.
One thing that anglers heavily emphasized before the event was timing. Combs likely has multiple schools of fish found, but being at the right place at the right time is everything.
With four fish worth 16 pounds, 4 ounces, Combs has plenty of room to upgrade, and plenty of time to do it.
