Christie has had a wild year. Winning the Classic, finishing one spot from dead last in the next Elite event on Santee Cooper a week later, and then following that horrible finish up with a win in the next Elite on Chickamauga, all within a month. “It’s been like a dream,” Christie remarked when I asked him about his rollercoaster of a year backstage at the Lake Fork Elite where he finished 29th.
You could tell in Christie’s eyes he was just rolling with the punches at the time. He honestly looked a little shellshocked by it all after a grueling day on Fork that day. The “dream” he was experiencing was both a great one and a horrible one at times. But it seems as though Christie is getting his bearings back now and is really settling in.
He’s off to a great start here on Pickwick, sitting in 3rd according to BassTrakk with three over 4- pounds already this morning. With a couple of 2-pounders in his 16- pound, 8- ounce bag, he has a lot of room to grow still today. With no pressure to qualify for the 2023 Classic (since the previous year’s winner gets an automatic bid), Christie is fishing to win every time he backs his boat in.
That reality accompanied by his solid early start makes him a real threat to show out this week, and add another high point to his crazy rollercoaster of a season.
