A warm week leading up to the first day of the AFTCO Bassmaster Elite at Lake Fork has resulted in a wave of bass moving shallow, with a good number of fish on beds. On the northern end of the lake, some of the best bed fisherman on the Elite Series are finding out that they weren’t the only ones to find these bedded bass.
“I didn’t feel good about seeing Drew Cook and Drew Benton in my starting area,” said Wes Logan with a laugh after boating his fifth fish. “There’s way more boats up here than I expected.”
Stetson Blaylock is another angler who has found that there’s more boats in his area than he predicted.
The Arkansas pro just boated a 9-pound, 10-ounce giant to cull all the way up into the lead with 34-2. Right as Blaylock was setting up on the fish, Drew Benton pulled into the same pocket and was disappointed to see that Blaylock was set up on the fish he hoped to catch.
The two anglers have since discussed their days and both mentioned that they wanted to get to the 9-10 early in the morning but someone else was already in the cove.
Despite the cold temperatures on Day 1, there appears to be plenty of fish on beds, and with warmer temperatures on the way over the next few days, it could end up being the winning pattern.
