BassTrakk: Day 2 by the numbers

We had another action-packed day on the Mississippi River yesterday. The full 90-boat field competed on Day 2, the same as Day 1. Here are how the actual numbers we saw at weigh-in compare.

Day 1 Day 2
Limits 73 61
Total fish weighed 419 376
Total weight 1,038-04 946-13

It would be easy to surmise just looking at these numbers that the fishing fell off a little on Day 2. But that’s not necessarily true when you factor in the weather delay that shortened Day 2 by an hour. With a strong morning bite to start the day, this delay likely accounts for the majority of the difference in the numbers we saw from Day 1 to Day 2.

Swapping over to BassTrakk, let’s look at the fish catches registered over 3- pounds to get an idea of what times of the day have been the most productive for big bites.

Day 1 Day 2
3-pounders 60 60
4-pounders 3 0
5-pounders 2 0

Looking at the times these fish were caught, we see:

Day 1 Day 2
7 a.m. – 8 a.m. 7 n/a
8 a.m. – 9 a.m. 11 9
9 a.m. – 10 a.m. 14 11
10 a.m. – 11 a.m. 6 5
11 a.m. – 12 p.m. 9 8
12 p.m. – 1 p.m. 6 11
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. 7 8
2 p.m. – 3 p.m. 4 6
3 p.m. – 4 p.m. 1 2

Again, we saw a strong flurry to the morning as soon as anglers were able to get to their starting spots. There was a lot of cloud cover on Day 2 compared to Day 1, which may account for the bite hanging on a little better on Day 2.

With only 47 anglers on the water on Day 3, we’ll have to play with numbers a bit tomorrow to be able to compare apples to apples. But we saw another fantastic early feeding window this morning on the water, so we can pretty much look forward to strong numbers to report in the morning.
