Listening in on Bassmaster LIVE this morning, there have been some interesting things pointed out.
First, most of us know by now that Champlain is significantly higher than it has been in the past. But Mark Zona really keyed in on this in an earlier segment. Champlain is 125 miles long, and it rose 3 feet, this summer. That’s a whole lot of water in a short period of time.
Another tidbit passed on by marine biologists with access to deep-water readings, the water temp is 70 degrees from zero to 45 feet deep. All the rain, current and summer temps have this huge portion of the water column at an even temp, allowing the cold-blooded bass to comfortably chase bait up and down with nothing to deter them but the pressure of the water, which they seem to have acclimated themselves to as well, with very few needing to be fizzed this week.
Another note relates to the Inland Sea, where 43 of today’s Top 50 are fishing. This is one of the most telling signs that the anglers using forward-facing sonar have cracked the suspended-fish code. In the past, half the field may have run to Ticonderoga to target largemouth. Now, half the field is out in 50- to 100- feet of water, and next to no one made the run down south.
