California Assembly member Bill Quirk has introduced state legislation (AB 2787) that will make it impossible to purchase lead fishing weights and sinkers that are less than 1-3/4 ounces which includes almost everything a bass angler would likely use! And there is no science that justifies banning such fishing weights found in nearly every California angler’s tackle box.
Widely considered “a solution in search of a problem,” the proposed legislation will hurt California anglers without protecting California fish and wildlife. In fact, as fishing license sales decline due to increased cost, money spent on conservation programs around the state will drop.
