Hank Parker of Denver, N.C., won the 19th annual Bassmaster Classic, held on the James River for the second consecutive year.
The first Bassmaster Classic was held in Lake Mead, Nevada, in 1971. Bobby Murray of Hot Springs, Ark., won the inaugural Bassmaster Classic with a catch of 17 bass weighing 43 pounds, 11 ounces.

Roland Martin almost never fished bass tournaments. Ray Scott managed to change his mind and in doing so he changed B.A.S.S. history forever.
In 1967, Ray Scott came up with the idea to put on a fully regulated big money fishing tournament. He called it the All-American and held it on Beaver Lake in Springdale Arkansas.
