Leader Brandon Gray isn't the only one on a hot streak this morning. Royce Davis just caught his second keeper largemouth, giving him a total of about 5 pounds.
Davis has been upfront about the fact that his partner, Flannagan Fife, caught every one of the nine bass they weighed over two days to win the first-ever Toyota Bonus Bucks Bassmaster Team Championship on Thursday.
But when this shifted to every man for himself, Davis let Fife have the crankbait bite that won the title for them. He's concentrating on brushpiles – throwing a jerkbait over the top and around the sides of the brushpiles, then dragging a jig through the brush.
It appears he's on to something. The bass weren't on the many brushpiles in DeGray earlier this week, but they've started moving that way in the last three days.
