As predicted, the river is busy

Everyone said that two-thirds of this 155-boat field would head to the slightly stained water up the Caddo River that forms DeGray Lake.

We have spent the last couple of hours there, out of cell service by the way, and seen a bunch of boats. Just about every bend in the river in the Cox Creek area had 7 to 11 boats within sight. "There were five boats here when we started this morning," Jerry Lineberger. "We've finally got this stretch of bank to ourselves, and we hope it stays that way."

He and Shane Lineberger of North Carolina have a limit in the boat – all spotted bass.

"We've caught several short largemouth, but we can't find a 16-incher," he said.

Everyone else we spoke with had three keepers or less. But the hybrid stripers are biting.

Steve Strickland and Stephen McCord of Alabama said they'd probably be leading if this were a hybrid tournament, having caught "about 18" today.
