Amateur Bass Series visited Leech Lake for back-to-back events on August 20th and 21st, 2021.
Leech Lake is one of the larger bodies of water in MN, and when the wind blows, it can be like no other with all the bays and arms of the lake creating different wave patterns and directions. But regardless of the wind, the lake didn’t disappoint with 21+lb bags to win both days and 6 bags over 20lbs for the weekend.
Day 1 was a sunny warm day with 15-25mph SE wind starting up at blast off. The wind was manageable for most but kept some areas of the lake limited to only those that wanted to venture through the windiest areas of the lake. Josh Leeseberg and Aaron Bommersback took home the victory with 21.07lbs and big fish of 5.36lbs! With that victory, Aaron takes home Skeeter Real Money payout of $5,000. That is the second time this year we had a Skeeter Real Money winner!
2nd Place went to Justin and Scott Schneider with 20.52lbs
Day 2 was the opposite of Day 1. A cold front with clouds and a high of only 63 degrees moved in overnight. Winds switched to the WNW at 20-30mph making more of the lake a challenge to navigate. Regardless of the cold front, the bass were biting again. Dave Saterbak and Eric Schreurs were able to fight the wind and bring in a winning bag of 21.38lbs and second big bass at 5.09lbs.
2nd Place went to James Chapman and Aaron Teal with 20.27lbs
With Day 2 on Leech being our final event, we crowned our champions for the following prizes.
Bass Team Championship Qualifiers – Based on team’s top 5 events. These two teams qualify to fish the Bass Team championship on Lake Eufala in Alabama in December.
Congratulations to the First Place team of Steve Lamser and Bob Lamser and the Second Place team of Dave Saterbak and Eric Schreurs.
